Since methamphetamine (METH) is metabolised to amphetamine (AMPH), and phenylethylamine (PEA) is naturally present in the body - especially under MAO inhibition - it may be sufficient to ingest METH to produce the result found. I don't know if AMPH is normally demethylated in the body, but if so, it's an additional source of PEA that might contribute to the findings.
