> Dear Attachment Girl, I read your post with great interest as I am, as so many, in a similar situation. My question to you (or anyone who has an answer) is why a more intimate relationship with a therapist is so inherently damaging? I have heard that repeated many times but I have not heard the reason it is so unacceptable. Any ideas? Sincerely, Widget
Supposedly the reason is the "power differential"; I don't buy it; there is a power differential in many relationshps, etc.....but that is the rhetoric out there; If you read "Sex in the Forbidden Zone" by Peter Rutter is is an amazing book (and the 1st of its' kind).....supposedly, once a client, ALWAYS a client no matter how man y years have passed; there are so many rules and theories; you can look at the APA rules/regulations; do the research and you can find all of that out (I did it, LOL, LOL)
Since my t "bent the rules" and allowed me to "see" him; we have been having a personal relationship; used to be called a "dual relationship"...now called "multiple relationship".....I may be seeing him in Hawaii for the (American Counseling Association) convention; should be interesting, LOL
Sassy
