I used to have that problem, and I switched taking Effexor Xr with dinner rather than breakfast. Now I sleep well, fall asleep without meds at a reasonable hour, and I wake up fine in the morning. I used to not be sleepy in the evening and want to sleep until noon in the morning. The rest of the day I had no energy either, but now I do.

For me, having trouble waking up in the morning was also a symptom of depression. Do you have symptoms other than that? Perhaps your med is not what it should be? Or perhaps a timing change of your dosage would suffice.

Good luck.
