Hello Nardil freaks,
I have been recently in contact with a guy who has a website on social phobia, and he too swears by Nardil. I will say this. I took St. John's Wort for like 3 years with really good success. I did not even take the standard dose either. Just 600 mg. a day. I bring this up because it has MAO-I action. I am sure that the action of this herb could not even compare with Nardil's effects though. So, I believe all the hype of this stuff. But, tell me about the dietary restrictions, for future reference. I want the truth. Can you eat things that it says you can't with this medicine? This guy says that you can. And, how severe are the side effects of weight gain, nausea, etc...? Anyone on Nardil, respond if you will please. Thanx.
Frankie.

> Frankie. The potential dangers of violating the dietary restrictions deserves respect and serious consideration. My research indicates that there is some "margin" of tolerance and individual variations that may enable you to violate the dietary restrictions without severe consequences, but there doesn't appear to be a "safe" way to find out. Personally I adhere to the diet and OTC med restrictions extremely rigorously. I will never play "russian roulette" by trying beer, pizza, et.al to "find out" if my system can handle it. Even if remote, the potential consequence of death is not one I'm willing to gamble with. Just one opinion from the "for whatever it's worth" department.

I have had varied experiences with Nardil and its prescribed dietary (and medication, Rx and OTC) restrictions. I have not stuck to the diet as strictly as you're supposed. There are some things that are highest in Tyramine that give me a severe headache, and other things I can and do eat like pizza that do not bother me, as long as I do so with moderation. In years past, I was playing russian roulette, even taking demerol while on the nardil (a potentially deadly mix)..I had no problems until one particular time, while inpatient, given a shot of demerol, I coded. I cannot take OTC cold meds either, but a friend takes cold meds, yet cannot eat as I do.
It appears that it affects people quite differently; however, I do not recommend haphazard experimentation. That severe headache could easily lead to stroking out.
As far as side effects, it causes hypotension and weight loss with me, not to mention hypomania.
This is the end of the thread.
