Sorry, I wasn't really explaining things too well in my last post. I should have explained things like electrophoresis, but I didn't.

In electrophoresis, you make this gel, with little wells at the top. Then you fill each well with a different mixture of either chopped up RNAs or DNAs. Then you run an electric current through the gel and the bands of DNA or RNA migrate through the gel. Bands are separated out according to the length of the segments of RNA or DNA.
