When you want to reestablish a connection with someone then you really need to be able to send that invitation out and then remove yourself from it enough so that it won't destroy you if you never even get a response. And it is hard... Because you always will wonder a bit 'did they get that?' 'did they mean to ignore me?' 'don't they even care about me a little?' 'did they ever care about me?' and one can go nuts with all that...
