I don't know if this would apply to your situation, but when they tested me for sleep apnea they gave me a small machine to take home.
There's a thing that lightly fits/clips around one of your fingers (and was attached to the the machine by a wire), and I just slept in my own bed, as usual.
Maybe the technology has changed - or maybe we're talking about diferent things... Hope this helps.
