In reply to Remeron with SSRI's?, posted by Frankie on March 28, 2002, at 2:56:18

I am thinking of trying it out, because supposedly Buspar elevates the S2 serotonin receptor, and in turn aggravates anxiety at that receptor, causing some PTSD problems in individuals that already exhibit some PTSD in the first place. I do. I need some feedback from you guys that are on Remeron with an SSRI. I am not willing to gain weight, but I have ways around that. Plus, is it not true that at higher doses, Remeron is stimulating? I need something that will give me some focus too. Effexor is not an answer because it will worsen the anxiety with Celexa and Buspar. I appreciate any input with Remeron doses, combinations, etc... Thanks.

I'm confused about the "S2" comment.
Buspar is a partial agonist at the serotonin 5-ht1a site (its primary serotonergic action). At high doses it also has a metabolite that is an antagonist at the alpha-2 noradrenaline site (these antagonist may generally precipitate PTSD anxiety symptoms). Also Buspar is thought to be a mild dopamine d2 receptor antagonist.
