stress or depression?

I don't know, for me there is a difference in how my brain processes things. When depressed my brain can barely process even simple things, which tends to create anxiety and self destructive thinking. When I'm stressed my brain can process things, but it is hard to focus on anything but the stressor that is bothering me. When stressed my fighter mentality takes overand I want to crush the stressor(world), depressed I only wish I would get crushed. It seems to me that my depression is caused internally while stress for me is almost always external

if I need to ask then...It must be stress, it must always be.
but from personal experience how do *you* tell for yourself?

Im feeling really emotional. It feels bad. there are always stressors and probably always will be. But today I got hit with a huge sadness. Like I wanted to go back to bed and stay for along time, that never happens. I thought the feeling would pass but it became exagerated when I went out. But there are stressful things right now too. But not necessarily more then normal. I feel like taking something to go to sleep because I dont feel like dealing with today. It is not a good day.

The only way I can tell is by the emotions that are running through me. For whatever reason when I am depressed I am always, 1. tired, and 2. feel very, very sad for no apparent reason all day for days. Stressed I can almost always trace my emotions back to the source, if I am able to take myself out of the moment long enough to see. Sometimes a really big stressor will trigger a depressed state in me, which is why I try to avoid anything that causes stress for me. What you descibe in your other post sounds like a depressed mode in my world, but you may have different ways of dealing with stress than me.

Stress makes tense and hopeless. I make rash, ill thought out decisions. I talk too much.
Depression makes me tired and helpless. I can't make any decisions. I withdraw.
As I suffer through the combination right now, it feels very very dangerous.

I'm always asking myself this question and have now added the question of boredom and lack of motivation.
Sometimes, what tends to cause me a lot of stress which can easily spiral me into depression, is that I don't have all that much that I should be stressed about.
Glad you're feeling a bit better today.

hi rain,
I hope you're okay.depression makes me feel tired, i can't think about anything else but how bad i feel, i'm unable to begin things, i feel hopeless, and i feel an aching hole inside myself, like a dark bottomless pit of despair.
stress to me feels anxious, tense, irritable, i worry needlessly and get things out of proportion, i feel easily overwhelmed, and i don't like to be around ppl. I feel stress a lot.
how are you feeling today?

Thanks Sabrina
yeah I tend to have a lot of external stress. Stuff I cant control except by blocking it out. But right now Its not too too stressful. It is but its a lot of stress that I have let happen. Thats why I was a little unsure if it was stress. It feels different. External stressors are much worse for me. At times I can give myself that reality check and chill out, that is when I have allowed the stress to happen but when my external world is crazy its hard to stay calm. hope that made some sense. I think i just taught myself something about me :-) Maybe I understand me a little better.
