day 18
very mellow. heavy nausea. no appetite. dehydrated but drinking water seems like alot of work. jogged 1 mile this morning. doc said today that he can see a big difference in my demeanor, but that he only wants me to be on wellbutrin for 9 months at most.

Barracuda does he see positive changes in your demeanor? And jogging l mile a day is great. Although the fluids may not seem important they are maybe gatoraid since you using electrolytes with the jogging. Why does he only want you on wellbutrin for nine months did he say? Love Phillipa

he said that he wanted to put me on a 9 month trial because i am having a hard time dealing with stress in my life and he is hoping that i will be able to handle it more with added wellbutrin. I don't know, i just know that i am really liking the results sofar. I have been much more rational and personable and actually wanting to go out whereas before i didn't want to go anywhere.
today i got a half dollar size hive on my knee. i tried to ignore it and not think about it and it went away after 30 minutes. another thing today was that while shopping at marshal's i smelled a horrible awful odor that was almost making me want to vomit, so bad that i had to leave the store and couldnt figure out why anyone could stay in there. my sense of smell is very heightened.
i don't need 12 hours of sleep anymore, even on zoloft i needed 12 hours at least, now i can stay up until 11 pm and wake up at 7 am refreshed - although with the help of zoloft.
i lost 2 of the lbs i had gained, so maybe it was a fluctuation thing.
i also find that it's hard to drink water, but im thirsty. it's hard for me to eat too, i am experiencing a major appetite loss, and i don't like it.
my jaw/yawn thing seems to be under control.
i think maybe im taking too much at 300 mgs with the zoloft and maybe that is why the hives came. i also have tremors but the weird thing is that they are somewhat pleasurable. or comforting. its hard to explain.
thanks to everyone for your concern and support btw. :)

Barracuda that was so clear and well written do you have a copy machine or copy it and show it to your doc. To me I feel you are saying you feel better but having some troubling side effects. If so does your doc know as maybe your'e right and a lower dose might help. Overall you're sleeping, feeling well rested but some anxiety with the hives. Hives can be an allergic reaction why not let the doc know and maybe if it's addressed you will be more at peace? Love Phillipa

today i took a claritin mid-morning to address the itchyness - it seems to work, also i didn't take my afternoon dosage, im going to reduce back down to 150mg and see if the side effects subside a bit. sofar no tremors, my appetite is back, i was able to eat dinner with no problem and my sugar craving curbed. yay.

I don't know...i just feel that 300 was too much. today I only took 150 also, but felt really lazy in the afternoon. maybe i will take my zoloft when i first wake up and then take my wellbutrin 150 around noon so that it can 'carry' me until the evening. i seem to be much much more calm and pleasant to be around sofar.
no jitters. no hives, very mild twitching. maybe I went up to 300 too fast? I am taking SR. and started 150 then after 3 days went to 300 which is where problems started...

day 22 - three weeks in on wellbutrin/zoloft cocktail. yawning & teeth/jaw clenching has pretty much subsided which I am very thankful for as it was begining to be very bothersome & painful as well as causing expensive dental problems.
today i waited until 12 noon to take my sr dosage of 150mg in the hopes that it will last me longer throughout the day so that i don/t need to take the full 300. this morning i woke up with itchy palm, but once the itch spread to my other palm, i took a claritin. itchy palm is now gone, but I am having severe shortness of breath. not hard to breath but its like i have bronchitis or something just out of the blue with wheezing/having to take full breathes. i hope this goes away.
medz are such a pain in the butt!
:(

I think if breathing is being affected as call to the pdoc is warranted. Seriously. Could be you are allergic and claritin has kind of controlled it? Love Phillipa

Listen to phillipa and go to the doc. I also had reactions to certain ssri meds. However, with myself the reactions lessoned with time. Also remember that it will take at least 8 weeks for your body to settle down. You have to fully saturate the receptors with these meds. I think if you keep up a regular schedule and do not change the time you take your meds you will see great benefits. Everything you have written barracuda, I have also been through. In addition, check the drug to drug interactions with antihistamines and meds. There may be a reaction there. However, all said and done , go to the doc.

day 26.
the last post with the breathing issue resolved itself after about an hour. I think it was anxiety due to the 2nd cup of coffee i had that morning. i've limited my coffee to 1/2 cup and haven't had the problem again.got a hive yesterday on big toe but it was night time so i tried to just ignore it. it went away after an hour or so.
got a hive on my knee today on knee but it was early afternoon so i took a claritin to not get anymore. it seems to be working.
i think the medication is starting to work. i don't crave food like i used to, i can think things out and actually do stuff now instead of being overwhelmed and frustrated and have stepped up my jogging to 1.5 miles 3xs a day instead of running every single day like i was doing.
i think that lowering my dosage was totally a good idea. :)

well, I am going to stop taking wellbutrin. I'm sad too, because it was actually kind of working for me, but the hives and now the sudden hair loss (my hair is about 50% thinner than before) are just too much to bear. I am going to be talking to pdoc next wed. to see about some alternatives, I see how I can feel better, but need to do it with less side effects...i will keep u posted.

oh, and i forgot to mention along with the hair loss, hives, I also gained about 4 lbs in less than 6 lbs. :(
the good stuff was:
- slept much better
- was much more energized during the day
- was able to communicate much more effectively
- was motivated to socialize much more
- was overall much more pleasant and able to handle difficult situations.

It sounds like an allergic reaction. They are common within relation to taking antidepressants. Remember wellubutrin is a mild stimulant. The reaction may subside after time. However, I think you made the right choice. I have a suggestion. For people that have reactions a good med is remeron. However, it is weight gaining and at the beginning treatment should be taken at a low low dosage. If you are augmenting you can take it with an ssri. This is a highly successful treatment. Now, for the weight gain you can take a supplement called L- carnitine. In the beginning you should take about 250 mg a day for the first week. Then build up to 500 for the second. After this, hopefully you body will adjust. Following the next few weeks, depending on how you react to the l-carnitine you can move up to about 1000 mg a day. It will not have any adverse reactions with the meds. I can account for this myself. I take 40 mg of paxil in the morning and 15 mg of remeron at night. I also take between 500 and 1000 mg of L- carnitine at about midday everyday. This is keeping the weight gain from the remeron off. Ihope this helps. good luck in all your endeavours.

It's funny that you mentioned this, because I'm also on 100mg of Zoloft and my mood is totally flat. When I took Wellbutrin for a couple days one time I got an effect that was vaguely "psychedelic" (you said it felt a little like ecstasy?).
Speaking of MDMA,its main mechanisms of action are that it attaches to the same reuptake site that SSRI's bind to (SERT) and reverses the flow of serotonin. It basically makes the reuptake site pump serotonin out instead of taking it in like it normally does (while also keeping the serotonin in the synapse from going back to the pre-synaptic cell because the reuptake site is already blocked). It also does this to dopamine, but much less than serotonin.
What I'm getting out is that SSRI plus Wellbutrin might be like some kind of really weak pseudo ecstasy.
This is the end of the thread.
