Question For ATM Lady About Ixel

Posted by bulldog2 on February 4, 2008, at 16:33:18

Why did you make the decision to go with ixel over older snri's such as effexor or cymbalta? Have you ever tried them?
Of the two components of your cocktail which offers you the must bang ixel or trivastal?
What is the dosing schedule for ixel to start? Such as 25 mg twice a day? What is their titration schedule to bring one up to 100 mg..

Thanks
bulldog2

Isn't Ixel close to being approved in the U.S. for pain/fibromyalgia? If/when that happens, it will probably be only a short time before it's used off label here for depression.

Currently Ixel (which is made in France) has to be ordered overseas. If you have a doctor willing to write a script for it it is legal to order a 90 personal supply.

I recall ATM Lady was already getting an impressive response from trivastal alone before starting ixel.

I have not tried effexor. I have tried cymbalta, nortriptyline and desipramine. Though ixel is theoretically very similar to all these, it felt uniquely different and better. Sadly it was a tease for just a few days and went downhill after that. In addition, I could hardly pee. I tried doses ranging from 12.5mg twice a day to 25mg twice a day. Any higher was totally out of reach unless I wanted to go to the emergency room to have my bladder emptied out.

I'm curious, did you have this problem on any or all other noradrenergic medications you've tried?

I think so, but not sure. Never took it longer than 2 weeks. Have reintroduced it 3 different times. Each time I felt noticably better by about mid-day the second day.

Hello, bulldog - I'm so sorry for taking so long to write back! I chose ixel over the other snri's because ixel works more on NE than SE. Whereas Effexor works 30:1 SE to NE, and Cymbalta works 9:1 SE to NE, Ixel works 1:3 SE to NE. I really need SE, but the two ADs I've taken (Lexapro - ssri, and effexor - snri) made me gain weight (hungry, hungry all the time) and unable to orgasm. So I did a search for a way to get SE without those two side effects and Ixel is what I came up with. I've been taking it for about 6 weeks now and am feeling better and not experiencing the side effects that I was trying to avoid, so for me - it's working. I use a light box in the mornings as well. There are probably better, or more powerful, ADs out there, but ixel, and the provigil I also take for fatigue, is working well for me so far ...

I just went right to 100mg a day, did not titrate up, but I had been on the max dose of wellbutrin so was used to heavy duty NE stim.....
