I've developed paralyzing social anxiety and have the beginning symptoms of a depressive relapse (appetite and sleep changes, fatigue, anhedonia, unclear thinking).
I can't see a psychiatrist for an immediate boost until later this month. I feel very lost in the supplement store - I was thinking perhaps L-Theanine - I need brands and dosages for a significant, noticeable "boost" (or something else I can get at the vitamin store).
Keep in mind, I can't drink alcohol or use things like Kava or Phenibut as I am in a sober living house.
Ty,

Try ginger root. It is a mild MAOI as well as calcium channel and 5-ht3 antagonist (good for social anxiety). Also, it can reduce inflammation associated with mood disorders.
It doesn't feel like a benzo per se, but it seems to target many of the same symptoms (at least in myself).

I'm not well-versed in herbal remedies, but I was wondering what value Rhodiola rosea would have in this case.

We have some medicines in sweden that is herb or flower-based (but are not covered by health insurance), and one is Passiflora incarnata-extract. it is a pill that contains 425 mg of dry extract (it's 2-3 grams of dried flower), and it's an very mild maoi to, and binds with little affinity on the benzodiazepin-receptors.
But i know they don't make you crave for drugs for me at least, cause if things are otc in sweden, they are usually very waek, but it could work. (we don't even have codein in cough medicines otc, nothing, not even diphenhydramine and that stuff.)
You could maybe take a look at that.
It has some harmala-alkaloids in it but very very little, and as you probably know that are the natural maoi :-)

Or niacinamide, high doses of magnesium, NAC or something like that.
I would try niacinamide if i was you.It is important that it is amide and not just niacin.
It suppose to be very good for anxiety.

Keep in mind that you don't take something that can make you relapse into drugs/alcohol.

I am not sufficiently informed to know.
I will say this, though. It seems that almost every herbal substance is touted as being a weak MAOI. I don't believe that there is any significant in vivo MAO inhibition involved with most of these substances. The only herbal substance that is a true MAOI is harmaline / harmine. It is a fairly strong RIMA (reversible inhibitor of monoamine oxidase - type A). I would not want to mix harmaline with a SRI.

Other herbs than the usual (syrian rue, Banisteriopsis caapi etc.) has harmaline in it, like passionflower, the one i wrote about in my last thread, but in >0.005%, but that could mess with medications anyway so yeah you're right.

I just started it while on 60 mg/Parnate. Don't really notice a difference for what it's worth but I'm not taking it for depression, using it more as an agent to help with self-stimulation and obsessive behaviors. Nevertheless, I think it would have value in your case if you need something OTC.

But perhaps enough to augment. Short term should be fine, without building tolerance. Its available OTC and is cheap. Just check 1st for any contraindications. Dry mouth is the main side effect, aside from sedation, which can be seen as a side effect or therapeutic effect, depending on what its used for.
Nootropics might help (there are a lot) and Alex Jones at infowars.com sells a herbal nootropic called FOCUS made with herbs. Its said to be very potent. He also sells AnthroPlex which I am trying right now whilst I switch meds. Very good adaptogenic. And NO i don't get paid for saying that! He's having a sale so thought id try. Mind you i bought from the UK and was charged an extra customs fee of £15!Escapee
