Sound off - what are you struggling with lately?

Posted by EastC on January 2, 2011, at 21:32:36

So I would like to start a conversation on what everyone is struggling with lately with their mental illness with regards to meds. I myself am on a cocktail of Lexapro and Strattera in the morning (along with high EPA fish oil) and Neurontin, Seroquel and Xanax at bedtime. I still have good days and bad days but this is the best combination yet so far. My struggles are insomnia that was once very responsive to these meds to a mix of good nights and bad nights that negatively effect my quality of life (motivation, focus at work, the desire to be around others, etc.) It makes me realize how much 'normal' people take for granted. Also, I find that my overall level of energy and motivation even on well rested days drops quickly after about 3:00 pm when the previous nights dose of Neurontin wears off and then returns around 10:00 pm when the next dose takes effect - unfortunately I cannot take Neurontin around the clock otherwise I become depressed and can't sleep (strange paradoxical phenomena indeed). I hope to hear from some of you!

Know what you mean as took being normal for granted til menopause and thyroid failure. Then first ad one after another now lexapro 5mg with 50luvox and xanax lmg and 5mg valium for sleep. Same thing happens to me get sleepy then wake up and stay up late. Will try this for awhile and not think of it. Too much info here also so may stick to no mental health forums for a while. Although it may sound like no big deal (and I agree, compared with what some people are struggling with, it is no big deal), my main problem is that of attention and motivation.

I've benefited greatly in mood rom reducing the Lexapro to 2.5 mg/day. I no longer feel like I'm being crushed flat, and I actually enjoy/look forward to stuff. However, I just. can't. focus. I can't lower the dose enough to allow me to focus on one thing for more than 10 min, it seems. I never had this problem in my life before SSRIs. It's seriously affecting my work as a grad student, and also affecting my self esteem. I don't want to add Ritalin (which my pdoc offered), so I'm thinking of asking her about Wellbutrin.

Hi. Im struggling with my mood swings. You can see my meds below in my signature. I get a few day of norm followed by a few days of pretty raw depression, then it repeates. No highs or euphoria but wondering if lithium might be a good addon if i can kick the booze. Anyone think Im bipolar or simply a unipolar rapid cycler?

I am really struggling with what is going on in Haiti. I want to do something to help. I wish could go there to bring aid RIGHT TO THE PEOPLE.

World Food Programme vouchers intended for women and children are being sold for profit by community leaders tasked with distributing them to the most needy.

So much of the donated money is not getting to the people.

So as a result I am not sleeping and I can't find a sleep med that works, one that keeps me asleep for more than 3 hours.
