Best treatment for anorgasmia?

Posted by tensor on December 26, 2009, at 9:43:41

Hi,

My Lyrica treatment has made reaching orgasm virtually impossible. What is the best way to reverse it? Sildenafil?

I'm not sure what the best remedy is, but people do respond to cyproheptadine when it is used just prior to beginning sexual activity. The disadvantage to using this strategy is that cyproheptadine can produce sedation or somnolence.

The following drugs are sometimes suggested:

sildenafil
bupropion
methylphenidate
amphetamine
sildenafil
mirtazepine
yohimbine

Thanks Scott,

I was also thinking of buspirone as it could also boost Zoloft, but I don't know how effective it is for sexual dysfunction. Trial and error, I guess.

Gosh. I forgot about buspirone. Yes, that would be an excellent choice.

Yup.

Good thinking!

Ginko Biloba
Horny Goat Weed
Longjack
Maca
Tribulus Terrestris
Muira Puama
Mucuna Puriens
L Arginine
Saw Palmetto

These are all natural and are often found together in sexual enhancement formulations. Scott mentioned Yohimbe which is natural as well, and very potent. Yohimbe can cause heart problems for some but if used sporadically with a healthy person at the right dose it may be fine.

I would try the natural alternatives first, especially before using the pharmaceutical stimulants(maybe on an *ss needed basis is fine). You're already on medications why add more if you don't need to.

Ginko may take a month or so before you notice a difference. Otherwise, some of the other natural alternatives may give you a noticeable benefit right off the bat.

Do you have a Vitamin Shoppe near you? The have a good selection of male sexual enhancement products and may be able to recommend one to you(if you can overcome the embarrassment of asking about one. just say it's for you father..he he)

Oh yeah, Mucuna Puriens is another one you may not want to take every day. I'm sure your only going to take these products when are ready for action. Horny Goat Weed may take a few days to really start to give you the full effect. It has a safe profile though so if you took it 4 or 5 days out of the week you shouldn't have any problems. Ginko Biloba is the only thing you should take almost everyday. GinkoGold buy Nature's Made is by far the best most clinically proven product out there. If you don't mind paying a bit extra it may be worth it.

Good luck!

Which of these are specific for anorgasmia as opposed to libido or erectile dysfunction?

Not exactly sure to be honest with you. I do think that if these herbs/supplements make sex more pleasurable and increase libido, the chances of orgasm may increase.

I forgot to mention Panax Ginseng as another stimulant that may help.

I think Horny Goat Weed(Epimedium) and L Arginine may work best for orgasm out that list. I could be wrong. I've also heard good things about Tribulus Terrestris and Mucuna Puriens(has some L Dopa which may boost dopamine levels).

Then there are so many formulations out there being sold. I guess you have to do your research and go through some trials in order to find out if any of these work for you.

I honestly do not know of anything to reverse anorgasmia. That is a different scenario than impotence or low libido.

Sildenafil usually worsens anorgasmia when anorgasmia is already present.

The other agents mentioned will primarily present a potential benefit of increased libido, but will do nothing to speed things up.

I guess the idea of temporarily boosting the dopamine circuits might help. That would mean Ritalin or Tyrosine. Dopamine agonists might work too.

Receptor blockers, antagonists, are probably the things to look at. There is no way to pinpoint exactly what receptor is at fault, despite our best theorizing, so various trials will probably be needed. Buspar, Zyprexa, Remeron, Abilify, Serzone...anything that will block some receptors. Some added agonism, such as with Buspar or Abilify, might be helpful. Maybe?

Hey, everything mentioned thus far in this thread have potentially potent side effects of their own, ranging from sedation to insomnia to destabilization.

Hey, if someone knew how to deal with the anorgasmia side effect, they could become a millionaire real fast.

Drug holidays, if tolerable and manageable, might be the clearest strategy.

I am a female who gets anorgasmia from SSRIs. The only thing that has worked for me is Viagra and Levitra. I tried Wellbutrin with no success.

Interesting. Thanks.

Do you think it works by increasing the intensity of tactile stimulation, or does it promote orgasm even though tactile stimulation remains the same?

Personal, I know.

With Nardil, I find that tactile stimulation remains unaltered and erection is not inhibited. It doesn't make me numb. However, orgasm is difficult to achieve. In other words, everything operates properly except for the orgasm switch. I am wondering if Viagra and Levitra would be helpful in this situation.

Hi Scott,
I've found that lowering my dosage from 90mg to 60mg has really helped my anorgasmia. Orgasm is delayed but not absent. I'm sure you knew this already. I have been off the board for a long time, trying not to make my depression the center of my life. In fact this is the first day I have posted in months. Phenelzine has always delayed my orgasm. Sometimes it has eliminated orgasm. But, like you said, it does not eliminate feeling. Just the switch that makes you orgasm. SSRIs did this to me also.

I'm also on compounded testosterone gel to bring my testosterone level into the high normal range. I was on Testim, which worked great, but my insurance changed and this med is so expensive. The compounded gel is cheaper than my copay used to be for the Testim.

I am lucky in that my partner is multiorgasmic. So if I can reach orgasm once in a couple of hours, she has been there about seven or eight times. For me, this is better than being able to orgasm right away. I know very few men with our affliction are blessed with a woman like this. I think I'll keep her.

Good luck to you. Even fighting through the depression you have helped countless people on this board. You are the "MAN".
Sincerely,
Jedi

Well it is harder to tell as a female. Without the Viagra/Levitra everything still feels good I just can't achieve orgasm. However, judging from comments my partner has made I think that the Viagra/Levitra really helps with clitoral erection so I'm not sure if it would help with pure anorgasmia. I would definitely say it is worth a try though! It is easy enough to get samples.

Just a quick tip: baby oil isn't very good for the vaginal environment (it can increase yeast infections), so it would probably be good to look into some sexual lubricant such as KY jelly.

No problem. I'm always open to discussion, particularly if it may help someone else overcome their own sexual frustration!

To true, can cause thrush, the body shop sell,s a sensitive organic oil thats cool. the oil is for marathon sex , forplay should do the trick in normal circumstancs. but as you say, even if you do a body massage be carful what you use as it may end up in the wrong spot.

How would any of these treatments be specific to anorgasmia caused by a specific medication in my curse Lyrica. I never had a problem before it.(I am a woman) If it is changing certain chemical(s)in Th brain and/or body that other substances can "undo" maybe I would understand it?

its hard to understand//a med your ok on ,gives you sex probs// an the one that dont // dont????????, maby thats a way of knowing when a med is working //when your sex life goes out the window///remeron is ok, but can make you twice as fat as ssri,s//that to may be an issue ,if you put weight on you dont feel sexy//another bummer. The new med agomeiatine was suppose to be the savior with no sexual side effects//but people are finding the med so weak they add ssris an other meds to it,an canceling out that theory
