Lamictal, Paxil, and Trazedone

Posted by BetterDays on November 25, 2007, at 19:35:16

Hi All,

I've been reading everyone's post for a couple of years now. I don't post often (I usually can find great answers through a search on archived threads), but always find the information here extremely helpful.

I have a long history of panic attacks, mood swings, and obsessive, compulsive behavior.

After years of trying a lot of SSRI's, a MAOI, and Lithium and Seroquel, I think my current cocktail of Lamictal, Paxil, and Trazedone is helping. Still having anxiety, but not full blown panic attacks. I am hoping as I increase my dose of Lamictal and Paxil over the next month, the anxiety will get better.

Here's my question. I take my Paxil in the morning (37.5mg) and Lamictal (50mg) at night, along with Trazedone (100mg) at bedtime. The problem is that I awake after 6-7 hours sleep and can not go back to sleep. Getting up at 4:00am every morning is making me cranky and unable to solidly face the day ahead. And I really do a lot better when I get 9 hours sleep.

Is 150mg of Trazedone at night a high dose?
Could it be that I should take my Lamictal in the morning?

Thanks so much for any feedback / experiences.

Kind Regards,

Shelly

I'd suggest taking the Lamictal in the morning, and see how that works out for you. As I recall, Lamictal interfered with my sleep, even though I did take it in the morning -- but that was a longish time ago, and it's possible other things interfered with my sleep at that time, too...

Good luck, and I'm glad you find helpful answers here.

Have you also considered a med like lunesta for sleep? Or sonata if you wake at 4 might give you some extra sleep as it's short acting I think. Lamictal at 50mg didn't bother me at night but I'm also on benzos. Phillipa

Hello,

Lamictal seems to be more stimulating for many users, myself included. I take my whole dose in the mornings. Don't change too many things at once. Antidepressants can exacerbate anxiety with mood disorders, so be very cautious with increases. Hopefuly you will get some good sleep just in time for the holidays.
