I am currently taking Lexapro (20mg) and Provigil (100mg) and have been on them for about 8 weeks. I've noticed my eyesight is strange sometimes. It's hard to focus or I just can't see clearly even when I have my contact lenses in.
I was planning on having Lasik surgery this summer for my nearsightedness and was wondering if the Lexapro would effect it. I'd rather not ask my eye doctor (he's a friend).
Has anyone had the surgery while on Lexapro or any other medication? Or does anyone know if it would have anything to do with it?
Thanks.

I had lasik eye surgery and was on lexapro. Per my optometrist, taking lexapro doesnt affect your vision as some antidepressants do.

SSRI's can make things a little blurry at times. For me, it is like I need an extra few seconds to adjust to any new object. This has to do with the way your brain processes the image and not your eyes. I would think there would be no problem. Obviously however, if you think the med is causing some visual problems, then lasic could not correct this aspect.

Hi.
I would suggest that you look into this matter more thoroughly. Just because a side effect never made it to the drug manufacturer's list on their package label doesn't mean that it doesn't exist. Wellbutrin was not supposed to blur vision according to the doctor who first gave it to me. He said that because Wellbutrin was not known to have the anticholinergic properties of the tricyclics. It blurred my vision more than the tricyclics did. I'm not sure they understand the mechanism by which this occurred. It might affect the ciliary bodies for all I know. If this is true, then correcting my eyes based on the tests performed while on the drug would have been invalid should I have discontinued it. I did discontinue it. That's no big deal if you're going for lenses, but lasik is not so temporary. Just something to think about.
