BPD, Abilify, Zyprexa, Halcion questions

Posted by socialdeviantjeff on March 17, 2004, at 19:38:30

Well, Didn't make it to the hospital. Utah's rules are really tough if you're not insured. Anyway, all that drama is on PB social.

I am wondering about experiences anyone has had with BPD and any one of the above drugs, or any of the drugs in general. My current cocktail is:

5 mg Abilify in the morning (cannot tolerate the anxiety above 5 mg.)

5 mg Zyprexa and .25 mg Halcion at night. The Zyprea is new, of course.

I have doubts about BPD:
I haven't even been in a relationship for 4 years. It takes months for me to truly begin a freindship. I have few freinds, but I keep them. I understand that frequent stormy relationships are a hallmark of BPD. However, when I meet somebody who would be relationship material, I tend to overly idealize; marriage, old age, white picket fence and all until smething happens (like them not calling me back) and I will undervalue them a lot. Basically at that point they are the scum of the earth.

Also, I don't abuse drugs. Scared to death of what could happen.

I'm not very impulsive per se (I do however have my moments) and I'm definitely not the life of the party.

I have all of the other traits. So I don't know. Any input is appreciated.

I think the zyprexa will help. It has helped me live a normal life again.

Hi:
In my knowledge, Bipolar and BPD is VERY close related. Then, the med./med. combo. is also similar or even same med. regimen which means the meds. Abilify, Zyprexa and one more med. sounds to me like a good med. for the condition.
The reason why your pdoc. prescribed Ability and Zyprexa combo. is that Ability is a kind 'all purpose AP,' AP, depressive side and mood-stabilizer properties. Zyprexa before the bedtime offers you 'good night sleep' that is crucial for your next-day's wellness, in my guess.
I have no idea one more med. 'Halcion,' sounds like one of older class of psycho.-med.?
In my suggestion, try to trust your pdoc. and work towards good/right med. combo., because this is ONLY WAY to get relief.

Thanks, Sebastian, Happygirl.

I think the Zyprexa/Abilify is doing something. I've noticed that my hostility and bad self-talk is edging off a little. :) The one think I really don't like is the anxiety the Abilify causes. I've tried a lot of antianxiety drugs but even at low doses they are too sedating so I live with it. Sucks pretty bad, though.

The Halcion is a Benzo and it's strictly for sleep. I am constantly fatigued and over sedated (the Abilify does help a little with this) but I can never sleep or nap. <yawn>

Hi:
I'm glad your med. combo. has been helping a bit by a bit.
In regard to 'fatigue,' I suspect on Zyprexa doing, because as you might have already noticed the effect of this med., it DOES make you 'sedating'/sleepy, ... in other word, makes you fatigued. But, in my case, it went away as time passed by, ... probably over the period of two or three weeks.

Also, other med. about which I wondered in my previous post, ... if this med. is 'Benzo,' it might be hard to taper off in case you want to get off it on the road ahead, ... I never did experience, but I heard of it.
For me, Serzone offers me good effect for both, Anxiety, sleep good and depressive side of my Bp. However, this med. has 'Black-Box'/Liver issue' warning, then you NEED really to be cautious before taking this med. For me, there is NO problem whatever, ... actually I love this med. Also, the generic form, 'Nefazodone' is about a half the price of Serzone and VERY affordable med. Just in case, ... if there is *NO* any other med. for your anxiety-problem, try to ask your pdoc. at your next appt. Because, seeing that Abilify is a sort stimulant effect not to sleep well during the night, Serzone might be a good choice, ... rather than the one you are on, 'Halcinon.' But, I have no idea to say whether this med. is good for you as seeing there is some conflicting opinion on this med., Serzone, like some happy and some unhappy in regard to its effectiveness.

Also, another thing, ... as to 'energy,' I believe that Abilify is helpful on this dept., but you may ALSO need anti-depressant for that symptom. Because, the depressive feelings causes you 'tired,' ... not physically but your mind/brain causing this.

However, before jump in any conclusion, you may need more time for the current med. combo. to work on you more effectively.

Hi:
I just forgot to say in regard to the dosage of Zyprexa.
In my opinion, .... 5 mg Zyprexa is quite 'High' dosage as seeing you're on other AP, Abilify. Try to cut it down to 2.5 mg. that may help you NOT to get sedation from the Zyprexa. Still may get one, but less sedation.
Once get used to the Zyprexa, then try to take it back to the 5mg. Because, like you, in my recollection about four years ago, I got quite sedation/sleepiness from the Zyprexa. You need to take 'slow' on this med. due to 'fatigue' and other annoying problems from taking Zyprexa.

The other med., 'Halcion,' ... in my opinion also, if this med. offerring you 'good relief,' then you'd better to stick with this med. Because, there are 'pros' and 'cons' no matter what med. you're taking. No 'Perfect' med. on the market so far. However, as a 'back-up' med., try to remember 'Serzone,' because this med. is quite reputable among those who are NOT able to tolerate SSRIs and all other form of the med. Practically, this med. might be 'last med./resort' to find a relief you need.

True it may be a bit high, but my symptoms are very bad sometimes. Plus I take it at night with the Halcion to help with sleep.

Serzone.. I'll remember that. So far, the Zyprexa is working out. Feelng a little sedated of course but hopefully it'll work out in time. I like this one. Hopefully it will make me normal.

Thanks for your input.

Hi:
I'm glad to hear that you like Zyprexa, ... yes, I totally agree with you in regard to the effectiveness of this med. Zyprexa. It's quite sedating, but in my case, helping on both symptoms. One is the 'ultra rapid cycling' that means 'cycling' of depression and hypomanic/dysphoric alternatively, four to five times a day. Never knows what/when those symptoms comes, then it's quite a scary thing to go through. Another one is 'dysphoric mania' that is definitely 'NOT' me, ... the Bp manupulating me to do this, but anyway, very nasty, ...). Then, I'm quite happy about Zyprexa's working on me on those 'two' areas particularly. Also, I realized gradually with the time, ... this med., Zyprexa has some M.S. along with depressive effect, but you need to be right on dosage, ... neither 'less' nor 'more' dosage. In this respect, I did a lot of 'experiment' along with 'reading' from someone else's experience here, Internet. Surprisingly, majority of M.I. folks here are terrific personality to help the other's problem. In the beginning, I got a lot of help as to the med. regimen.
Lastly, regarding 'Serzone,' ... yes, this med. is a very unique med. to help both dep. and anxiety sides, but 'Liver stuff' is some concern, then unless ABSOLUTELY need it, you'd better to stick with the med. 'Halcion.'
