I've lived for like 2 years dealing with it, but today I couldn't eat a single thing. I'm sick of this-- I'm going to sleep soon, and I know I'll be starving and by then it'll be too late, nothing open to eat out from.
What meds will increase my appetite without making me sleepy? Straterra? Abilify? Anything?? There's got to be something that will work. I've got soc. anx. disorder, add and narcolepsy. I tried Seroquel once for soc. anxiety, and it let me feel hungry at meal times. I didn't like it though, so I stopped taking it.

> I've lived for like 2 years dealing with it, but today I couldn't eat a single thing. I'm sick of this--
I used to have problems with this, could not eat on stims but when they wore off at night I ate everything in the house. I seemed to have gotten used to the appitite supression and then would get hungry during the day. I did find Doxipin and Remeron help stimulate appitite, I kave taken one or
the other at night for some time. Upping this dose helped me eat during the day. Pot would help, but I don't smoke during the day & night time is when I am off stims; I never had problems with dinner.I think part of this is learned; have you tried
a nutrition shake during the day ? Can you think of anything else you can eat/drink during the day ? Yogurt was what i used to start eating on stims.
I think taking small steps to learn to do this would be key. One could do a liquid diet during the day & a regular meal at night.

No, I've lived off of soy shakes, force feeding, etc.
I've done it so long, I've gotten use to it. I may be more sensitive now b/c I have just went off a mini drug holiday, 2 weeks off of school. But still, this isn't human. I remember when I was on a low dose of Seroquel (idiot p-doc I saw out-of-state gave it to me for insomnia, or so she told me) I remember that I could actually feel hungry when I was suppose to, not hate food, and I didn't have amphetamine-induced penile shrinkage (that's the most tactful I get).
I also remember feeling wonderfully hungry on a low dose of Abilify. I got restlessness, but I'm sure that would go away if I took Klonopin, which I now finally take. I tried taking some Neurontin back then, and remember it relieving it.
Problem is, I want to stop feeling all these bad feelings all at once, and I know that that's not likely going to happen because docs like adding one drug at a time. I'm still titrating up with Xyrem, but I really need Ambien to go with it or else I don't sleep at all, and then what's the point of taking a narcolepsy med like Xyrem or using a $2500 BiPap machine for my sleep apnea if I can't even sleep?
I'm finally seeing a pdoc in his private practice, out of pocket. I put it off last spring thinking I could get away with seeing a hospital doc, but there's a reason why this doc, unlike any other doc in his hospital's psychopharmacology unit, was accepting new patients. He doesn't return phone calls. Ever. If you're lucky, 1/20 times he'll pick up. I can't deal with that anymore, my life isn't easy, and my grades are affected when I can't sleep just because he's too lazy to call in for some Ambien.
Oh, and another thing, I get methamphetamine and GHB (Desoxyn and Xyrem) prescribed by this doc, but I mention I have trouble sleeping, and I get funny looks. Ambien isn't even conclusively proven to be habit forming, unless you're including the possibility that the patient will get into the habit of actually sleeping on a regular basis. God forbid that ever happens!
Yes, sleeping aides ARE habit forming, because sleep is something you need to do every night. God, what's wrong with people? There's worse things to get addicted to than regular sleeping patterns. If I can be trusted with meth and GHB, I should be able to have simple sleeping pill that often won't even work anymore.
To be honest, I'm afraid to ever tell docs that I have insomnia, because they treat you like you're too stupid to know how to sleep and barrage you with these ridiculious questions that insult your intelligence. But I don't care anymore, I have narcolepsy, and any doc who has a clue about it knows that it's common to have insomnia associated with it. Xyrem had to be tested for its safety when combined with Ambien just because so many narcoleptics have to take a sleeping aide.
It's silly, I would take the 1mg 3x/day Klonopin a lot of times, not use it during the day, and take it all at once at night (anything less wouldn't put me to sleep). I'd get lighter sleep, and be groggy the next day, but it was still sleep.
But I don't know why I feel like I have to act like a drug addict and make these ellaborate schemes just to go to sleep. I'm not trying to get high, I'm trying to be human.

All the tricyclics block histamine 1/2 receptors to varying degrees, causing carbohydrate craving. So does mirtazapine. Don't know if this is any use to you.

Have you tried Paxil? EVERYBODY seems to gain weight while using it. Only some people are made sleepy by it. Perhaps it will work for you.

Actually, I was un-offically addicted to Ambien for a while. I'd take too much, found I could still stay up on it and could trip. I stopped by myself one month when my rx ran out early and people were on to me. The whole thing was getting exhausting (no pun intended) anyway, and it led to a deep depression. A friend of mine was on it for a few days and fell down some steps while on it one night. I have done things and said things that I could not recall the next day--that people who were on the other end of the convo had to fill me in on, and it was sometimes embarassing, as you can imagine. I am on Adderall and have been for over a year now, no addiction...I have also been on valium a couple of times, xanax, klonopin, vicodin, percocet...again, no problems. To this day I know that I cannot even be around Ambien, a sch.IV drug when I take sch.II's w/no problem, and I still crave it sometimes. It was an escape for me, and admittedly I did abuse it during a rough time. Thankfully, those incoherent, forgotten nights are far behind me now. Be careful.
Best,

I too have been in this situation. I sometimes feel as though part of my diet is liquid, part forced down, whatever. during the day. at night, i get hungry, and i can usually stomach solid foods. i thought you had mentioned in a post that you were on 300 mg. of Wellbutrin. When I upped my WB to 200 mg., my appetite decreased. When it was upped to 300, it decreased even more. could be the source. of course, it could be the desoxyn, or the combo, which is most likely the case. i know it really brings the suck when you are out with friends and they want to get dinner & they ask you what you're in the mood for & you just throw your hands up like, "whatever, i don't care, it doesn't matter" while you rack your brain in desperation trying to think of something you could possibly picture yourself actually consuming. the suck also comes with not recognizing normal hunger patterns correctly, because then energy drops significantly until you do obtain some nourishment. these days, i eat whatever i want to eat--that is, whatever i think i can stomach in solid form at the given time!
Best,
L.
