I took a hair test in order to get a job, and I didn't pass. They didn't say why..
They didn't ask me what medicine I was taking, if any, so I assumed they only looked for "recreational drugs." But I take Lamictal, Zoloft, and Klonopin (PRN, every few days). Is Klonopin considered a recreational drug since it's in the family of Xanax? I'm really bummed out, does anyone know about this? Any help appreciated.Take care

Yes, they would test for a benzo. Tell them that you take this onder doc's orders and see what they require
by way of proof from your doc for this. Then you will be OK

You haven't taken any codeine containing painkillers or eaten a poppy seed bagel recently have you? These will fail you a drug test. Other than that, yes benzos are considered drugs of abuse by many drugs tests - strange as they are a prescription med but there you go.

Tylenol has codeine? I've taken a good amount of that when I was sick a week or two ago. I really doubt they would give a positive drug test answer to a company for tylenol don't you think? Thanks for the answers though, that gives me some hope.
Take care

Some tylenol has codine in it. Sometimes the tests are very sensitive ie. picking up opiates from poppy seed bagles.
They may be requred to provide evidence to why you failed.

Thanks
Do you know if the test for companies shows what drugs were found in the hair, or does it just give a positive or negative response for whatever they find? Thanks

The Tylenol (acetaminophen) you buy over-the-counter at the drugstore does *not* have codeine. There are prescription-only painkillers that contain both Tylenol and codeine (they're known as Tylenol #3, Tylenol #4, etc depending on the amount of codeine in them. #3 has the least.) Did you take anything in cough syrup form? Or have any
prescription medication from your doctor for your illness?I don't know what the rate of false positives is with the hair testing. I have never had to take one of these, but I am quite surprised that they did not ask if you were taking any prescription medications. I thought less of this type of testing was being done nowadays - it's proven to be so cost-inefficient in so many cases.
Good luck, and I hope things work out.

I remember seeing a company drug testing kit, which tested for both benzo's AND TCA's!
Now that's harsh.

If that employer won't give you the results, so that you have an opportunity to show that the meds it picked up have been legally prescribed to you, then you should call the EEOC and file a complaint. You may even want to call a lawyer.

Whoa ! wcfrench posts saying he failed a drug test
and takes benzos. Wht all the poppie seeds and codine posts ? lets hear horses and not zebras, perhaps ? Also, it is my experience that lots of people fail these tests at first till they provide
info on drugs taken. There is a procedure here for this.In my state, the employer does not know what specific drugs caused one the fail a test.
It is up to the lab to decide if one failed or not. So leave the EEOC out of this & simply
contact the lab, as I mentioned
This is the end of the thread.
