Either I have terrible PMS (probably PMDD) or my depression really kicked my rear-end last weekend. I increased my dose of Effexor from 112.5 to 150 mg. and started feeling better within 2 days. Two problems:
1. Effexor makes me feel a little "flat" or apathetic
and 2. I think my depression is exacerbated by my menstrual cycle. Caffeine makes me feel worse pre-menstrually, but really helps my mood pick up post-menstrually. I find I am needing more and more caffeine to keep the "up" mood going. I am thinking I
may be helped with the addition of Wellbutrin or Prozac. Any ideas or suggestions? I am currently seeing an internist who is very amenable to trying things out, but I will need to offer some evidence or sources of information. Thanks in advance, AnneL

Hi. Augmenting FXR with either Pozac or Wellb might be effective. Most people find the Wellb to be somewhat stimulating (which can be a good thing). Both drugs have been known to exacerbate anxiety. I have no subjective experience w/PMS or PMDD (I'm male) but am aware as u probably are, that Prozac is currently marketed as specific treatment for these problems. It's kind of a toss up. The Wellb might energize you & help with that "flat" feeling & the Prozac would probably deal more directly with the effects of PMS or PMDD. As always check with your doc. Hope this helps. Take care.
PS Check PB archives as there is a lot of info on PMS & PMDD
