Can anyone give me some information on how I can acquire Manerix? (I live in U.S. and it's only available in Canada.) My doc suggested it, but doesn't know how to go about it either -- could she e-mail a script into a Canada pharmacy?
Also, any info on the drug as far as side effects, etc. would be greatly appreciated. What I have read seems to be pretty positive, but would be open to more feedback.
Thanks for your help,
cindy

I am in Canada and was on it for a year. It seemed to have a much-welcomed calming effect at first for me, without the strange effects I had when trying Prozac, Serzone, or Effexor, none of which I stayed on for more than a week as I could not take the effects at the time.
That said, however, the effects of Mannerix seemed to wear off, or perhaps I should have upped the dosage. I guess I was just sort of mindlessly taking the stuff without proper monitoring. I finally stopped cold turkey last Dec. (not a wise thing to do I gather) and have not been on anything since except a new stimulant (Ritalin). My friends say I seem more myself.
Everyone is different. Perhaps my dosage should have been upped, perhaps a stimulant with it might have made the difference.

12 weeks @ the highest permitted dose & no side-effects to speak of (except, like all ADs, it made me a little more depressed-but far less so than other ADs). Pretty exceptional in this regard.
Unfortunately no benefits...

If you were closer to Mexico, I could tell you the doctor to go to down there (it was really easy getting it--its called Aurorex in Mexico).

Hello Cindy,
I can't help you for the purchase of Manerix. Maybe if you contact a pharmacist in Canada he could help? I take Manerix 300mg. I have some advice about that medication. First, it helped me getting out of my appartment and find a job. But the anxiety was still very high, so my doc raised the dosage at 750, gradually. At that dosage, I was so anxious, I was crying all the time. So be alert. Maybe your doc is aware of that side-effect, mine wasn't. She thought the anxiety was situational. But now I know it was the Manerix that was much too high for me. Now I'm at 300 mg, which is okay, I mean I don't feel that good, but I'm not in a depressed mood all the time. Manerix doesn't help with anxiety (!), at least not for me.
Good luck,

Thank you for the info! Don't you "love" it when docs think our drug reactions are "situational?" Seems like it happens all too often! I will definitely take your experience to heart.

>Yeah, and too often we believe them, don't we? It's so hard sometimes to face the truth that we have to try something else... Maybe it's hard for some docs, too to face the truth. The trick is not to be impressed by the title, and to keep in mind that we are the only person who can tell really what's going on. I find it hard though, I tend to forget what's going on when I'm in the office. I bet I'm not the only one...
Well, thank's for your feedback, and take care,
Doo.

Cindy,If you want to give Manerix a go, you can have your physician register with the Great Britain pharmacy www.idis.co.uk. They specialize in international pharmaceutical sales and logistics. If your doctor registers with them and faxes a prescription they will send the medication directly to his/her office (UK law requires the medication shipped to the attending physician). Anyways, you can probably order upto a 3 month supply of 600 mg/day. 300 mg is the recommended dose, but some people go upto 600. Also, if you go to the Canadian web site for Roche Pharmaceuticals you can download the PDR (physicians desk reference) for your doctor to review. I tried Manerix for 2 months at upto 600 mg. It lived up to its claim to fame of having almost no side effects, but unfortunately it did not help me.
Good luck,
John
