I have been on Effoxor XR 75mg. for about 2 years now. It has worked wonders in my life. With a husbund who travels alot and 4 children I was worn to a frazzle and at my wits end. But recently I have been depressed and more tired than ever. My gyn. referred my to a psych. doc. who can not see me until 1-31. I can not wait that long. So I asked what to do in the meantime. He suggested that I take 2 of my pills instead of 1. Has anyone done this and what types of effects should I expect. I'm a little nervous because it says if you miss a dose do not double up, just wait until the next dose.

Double to dose, 150 mgs is a usual dose. This is not the same a taking 2 doses to make up for a missed dose.

Krystal--
Doubling your dose of Effexor to 150mg. would still leave you at the low end of the recommended therapeutic range for this med. Do not be surprised, however, if any initial side effects which you may have experienced when you began Effexor (such as nausea, dizziness, trouble sleeping, etc) return briefly when you increase your doseage. These reactions may last (if they show up at all) from several days up to 2 weeks and do *not* indicate that you are taking too much of the med; they merely reflect your body's adjustment to the change.
Good luck and well wishes---medlib

Krystal - To minimize the increase in side effects that may occur with an increase in dose (as mentioned by medlib) you could take one dose in the morning and one at night. This is not really necessary, as the entire dose of Effexor XR can be taken once daily, but it may help alleviate some of the transient side effects. These side effects should disappear with a week or two (or may not happen at all).
Good luck with the increase, but do not expect a decrease in depression overnight. The depression should gradually remit over a couple of weeks, as well.
Hope this helps - Cam

My own preference would be to increase by half first, get used to it, then go up again. But that requires a scrip for 37.5 mg capsules. Be prepared, when increasing, to experience some of the initial side effects that you might have when starting the med in the first place.
I think any increase, though, should be under more careful supervision of an MD.

I just doubled my initial dose of 150XR to 300XR. Taking both in the morning gave me a little hand tremor. One in the AM and one at night doesn't as much and may make a 15 minute middle of the night awake period more likely or happen more towards 5am instead of 2 am.
I got a positive response from the dose increase within a few days.
This is the end of the thread.
