Is anyone still taking Provigil? I was taking 100 mg. 2 x a day and was feeling great for a few weeks. Now, not only do I not have the great feeling I did, I actually feel worse. Maybe I should go back to 200 mg. 1 x a day? How much is anyone taking if they are taking provigil? Thanks, elise

Sorry to hear things have deteriorated for you Elise. Perhaps Modafinil will turn out to be like many of the other more common stimulants, where higher and higher doses are needed over time.
In Europe Provigil's ancestor Adrafinil is much more preferred for treating depression. It is a lot cheaper, and it doesn't have a reputation for developing tolerance requiring higher and higher doses over time. It does not have a reputation for poop-out. Unlike some overseas mailorder meds, it is cheap and easy to get. No prescription required. Though it is similar to Provigil (Provigil is actually a close cousin derived from it), it is different enough that it has a reputation for being preferred over Provigil in treating depression in Europe. You might consider the switch. Your wallet would appreciate it too.

I think the most popular place to order is from International Antiaging Systems. If you do a search on 'adrafinil' you will likely discover some other sources as well. IAS is a reputable firm. I've ordered several different drugs from them in the past, and shipments usually arrive from 2 weeks to 4.

A friend of mine seems to be experiencing the same poop-out effect with Provigil.
John, where can I find some information comparing the efficacy of Provigil and adrafinil?

I don't think there is any. These are not widely used or studied drugs. All the efficacy studies I've seen, which are hard to come by, had to do with narcolepsy or wakefullness only.In the Physician's Desk Reference Book, it's not uncommon for a drug to occupy 2 or 3 pages in small print. Modafinil wasn't even a whole page. And since Adrafinil is non-FDA, it isn't in there at all. And while the book cites clinical trials of whatever med, I don't recall seeing any listed for Modafinil, other than something about monkeys finding a moderate similarity to amphetamines. (I always wondered, how do they know that? Did they ask them? :-) )
As usual, I guess there's no substitute for personal trial. Even if we had tons of info on these drugs, you and I have both seen how strikingly different people respond from what literature would suggest.

Perhaps it was through observations of behavioral effects.
Rats and mice are actually trained to recognize an injected compound by pressing a reward-bar. Once they are trained to recognize amphetamine consistently, they are then challenged with injections of Modafinil. If they mistake it for amphetamine and press the bar, this demonstrates a similarity between the two compounds. I guess the statistical rate of cross-response gives an indication as to how similar they are.

Stay well.
