>I do want to be comfortable in those situations.
Yes, but have you ever been?>I'm always on edge...it's incredibly exhausting.
It has been a source of wonder to me why this should be so. I can't see it changing much for me now. Being able to leave is important for social situations but not, alas, for the situation you are referring to.I have always been fascinated by how easy it is for some people to lose control of themselves. In "Happiness" there is a wonderful scene where Joy goes to the Russian taxi driver she had sex with to retrieve her guitar. While there, being abused in Russian by the wife, she notices he has also stolen her sound system. When she asks for it back he says something like
'I need a thousand dollars.'
'I don't have that much.'
'How much have you got?'
'I've only got $500.'
'That'll do then.'
They go to get the money. She gets her guitar back, but maybe not the sound system. It is one of my favourite scenes in a movie. How do people end up in situations like these?
