Lexapro Withdrawal

Posted by Restore on August 8, 2006, at 19:52:01

I am currently trying to wean myself off of Lexapro which I have been taking for 7 months. Started at 10mg, increased to 20mg but insomnia led me to Remeron. I have been reducing my Lexapro dosage since March but haven't decided whether to discontinue completely. Here are my questions and comments.

-In addition to Lexapro, I'm taking 45mg of Rem eron and Lotrel for blood pressure.

-I have successfully reduced the Lexapro dosage down to 5mg. Several times I tried to go off completely and experienced a variety of withdrawals including brain shivers and dizziness.

-5mg seems to successfully manage my anxiety and counteract some of the Remeron side affects (sedation)

-I recently reduced my Lexapro dosage to 2.5mg and have noticed "mild" withdrawl symptoms but more troublesome is my anxiety seems to have returned and my blood pressure has increased from 120/75 to 135/85.

-I'd like to get off the Lexapro because I feel its the right thing to do, but given the BP increase and anxiety maybe I need to stay at 5mg and plan on continuing it.

Thoughts? Am I too concerned about getting off Lexapro? I have no plans to modify my remeron dosage at this time
