Hi All,
Sue and I rented "Lost & Delirious" this weekend, a beautifully photographed and sensitive Canadian film about love and loyalty set in an upper-class boarding school for girls.
Cynics may see it as derivative, sort of a mildly Lesbian "Dead Poet's Society," but it is so much more than that. Foremost, there are no evil characters. The struggle is between the power of true love (wherever it appears) and the stiffling expectations of social convention.
The movie ends with the suicide of one of the main characters, but the effect (for me) was not shattering; rather, I felt like I wanted to re-write the ending, to find a better way out of the dilemma, to empower the adults in the film to intervene within the promise of their characters.
Best wishes,
Mark H.
