Falls taught me to color and I find it really soothing. Buy nice crayons and a fun coloring book. Or draw on nice paper.
I listen to music. I pray too. And of course I journal. But when I'm really trying to calm myself down, I get into bed, put on the nightlight and deep breathe. I don't visualize, I just focus on my breath and pretty soon I can fall asleep.
I read a study tonight that found that if you focus on 5 things you are grateful for before you fall asleep each night, you will sleep better and easier than counting sheep. Isn't that interesting? So we should make it a bedtime ritual to think about our day and be thankful for 5 different things -- even if those things are just that we made it through the day and we are thankful it is over.
Hang in there.
