Gabapentin Less Effective On Second Round - Why?

Posted by Brainbeard on January 7, 2010, at 13:41:29

I usually dive into the minutiae of a drug's mechanism(s), but with gabapentin (aka Neurontin), it's just too much of a mystery for me.

It does puzzle me that ever since I quit the 1200mg I was one, only to return a short while later, the drug isn't nearly as effective for my chronic pain. It also doesn't seem to sedate me anymore, it doesn't seem to potentiate benzo's like it did before..

Does anybody have ANY idea why the drug wouldn't be effective after a short withdrawal?!

Is tolerance an issue for gabapentin?! (Hm, that's a simpler question.)
