I recently had to refer my now ex BF to a the State Medical Society for treatment of what appeared to be addiction to Wellbutrin,
He was a 50+ mild mannered surgeon who has suffered from life long severe depressions. Four years ago I sent him to a psychopharm because he became hostile while trying to withdraw from the high dose prozac he had been on for many years
The doc put him on Wellbutrin. His entire personality changed, he became aggressive, mean, aggitated, hypersexual- had affairs, began to frequent S& M women and basically became someone I no longer knew. Lamictal was added as we prozac but then when his pdoc tried to wean him off the Wellbutrin - he began to write his own scripts!!!
It also made him increase his alcohol intake and smoking. I had no choice and now I have no idea what is happening with his intervention. I only know he blamed me for everything- and now hates me
Question- if the Wellbutrin was responsible for his mania- can he a) ever get off of this stuff and b) ever recover or is the damage permanent.
