I didn't lose any weight on the 2 years on Lexapro but I didn't gain any weight either. And I was still depressed. My doctor switched me to zoloft and so far I have been able to loose 30+ lbs on Jenny Craig . I recently felt my depression coming back slowly and discussed this with my doc - who decided to add wellbutrin to my daily zoloft dose, but since I've been on the wellbutrin i've gained almost 4 lbs in less than 2 weeks.

I guess what i am trying to ask is when people say they gained weight from being on meds, did they really gain weight from the meds or did they gain weight because the meds interfered with thier decision making and they ate more calories than they worked off...

My theory on the weight gain is increased prolactin. That will decrease the amount of Human Growth Hormone and that will decrease thyroid output. My wife is on zoloft and also went on Jenny Craig but found once she added 20 mcg t3 her diet kicked into gear. I wonder why more docs don't check thyroid output when a patient complains of weight gain on an AD.
