In College I started to have really bad sleep cycles due to not being bound to mandatory attendance.To help answer your question, I would describe what the NIMH / NIH demands of their patients. They must be in bed no later than 11:00 PM and no earlier than 11:00 PM. Similarly, we weren't allowed out of bed until exactly 7:00 AM.
Circadian rhythm can be critical in addressing mental illness. One of the researchers on my floor was Thomas Wehr, who was at the forefront of study in this area.
