Did you taper off the parnate slowly, or quite fast? The reason I ask is because the fact that you felt suicidal 2 months later was probably due to the withdrawal from the parnate once it was completely out of your system. Naturally, you may disagree, but Ive been reading lots of articles about how difficult it is to come off antidepressants once youve been on them for a while. And you only find out when, like you. you are feeling good and think you dont need the meds any more..... and then comes the nasty shock.
That happened with me on nardil, even though I was decreasing under doctor's supervision. He quickly made me up the dose again. You are fortunate not to have experienced poop out. I had it on nardil after 20 years and it was a nightmare. Im now on parnate, and decreased the dose when I thought I was ok on it, and now it doesnt work, even though I have upped the dose to 40 mg which is all that I personally can stand.(originally 30 mg worked fine for 5yrs) I wonder whether certain people are more vulnerable to poop out than others.
Really dont know what to do. The NHS has cut funding for mental health drastically, and you have to be totally suicidal in order to get a psychiatrist. And all the good ones have gone private. It is a nightmare in the UK where we always used to depend on the NHS.
On top of that, only the maois have ever worked for me, though they do tend to make me hyper and 'high' which I dont like.
Have you ever done well on any other antidepressant?
