Hi Ed,

Yes, there is no clear evidence that luvox works as an antipsychotic in individuals with no concurrent depressive symptoms.

However, in individuals with psychotic or delusional depression, there is evidence that luvox can be more effective than SSRIs in monotherapy. This is important, since psychotic depression can be particularly hard to treat, and often warrants a antidepressant and antipsychotic.

For instance, there are a few case studies I have read where effexor worsened delusional depression, and a switch to luvox resulted in significant improvement.

For an individual with depression with psychotic features (which may or may not be mood congruent), I would think luvox would be a reasonable initial choice.
