Need ideas on beating desipramine insomnia

Posted by TriedEveryMedication on November 1, 2015, at 9:30:34

Currently taking 5mg Brintillex and 10mg of desipramine. I'm taking the desipramine for attentional and motivational problems.

When I first tried desipramine years ago, I took it at bed, and it would knock me out the entire night and I would wake up feeling very refreshed.

At some point, something changed.

Desipramine now wakes me up, (WIDE awake) around 3am, no matter when I take it. Before bed, in the morning... hell last night I set an alarm at 2am, and took it then, went back to sleep and BOOM - wide awake at 3am.

This happens even when I take desipramine by itself, so I'm pretty sure the brintellix has nothing to do with it. Only mentioned it because I'm taking it too

I've tried trazadone and ambien - they sort of work to keep me asleep, but they also completely defeat any benefits I get out of desipramine. Feel like a space cadet the next day after a night of either of those.

Any ideas?
