In reply to Any Med That Are Safe Now?, posted by Phillipa on September 11, 2014, at 11:51:18
As we all know, our knowledge of the brain and how it works is still very incomplete. and Drug Company knowledge on how to treat mental illnesses is even more incomplete. i believe we are still completely in the amateur stages with the chemicals that are put together in a lab that alter how the brain works. From all the experiences I've read that people have had with them, id say it would make more sense to refer to them as "Sexual Desire Inhibitors" than Antidepressants. since it looks like thats what they're more likely to do than relieve someone of their Depression.
Yes, these meds have helped many people. but they've also harmed many peoole. hopefully they've helped more people than they've harmed. but the worst thing is that the people who have suffered the worst harm are ignored. I guess Drug Company propaganda sounds so much better.
But, are these medications safe for the general public? One thing we all should all take into account is that one thing that has been 100% proven is that psychiatric meds do indeed cause a chemical imbalance in the brain. hopefully in the future we will be able to identify the exact problem area in someone's brain, and fix it. but right now its just a guessing game that doctors play with someone's brain.
