Just to complete the thought ...stress hormones (cortisol and glutamate) result in changes in the amygdala, hippocampus, corpus callosum and prefrontal lobes which are thought to result in depression. Other factors thought to be helpful in lowering stress hormones include exercise, meditation, massage and supportive personal relationships in general.
