I think that this is so true. I've read similar statements from psychiatric patients on other Web forums over the years, and it's also been my experience that there's a great deal of variability in the approach that psychiatrists take to diagnosing patients. If there's one thing that I could say that is true of most psychiatrists, it's that they don't ask enough questions. They also do very little, at least from my experience, to try to rule out non-psychiatric medical factors that might be causing symptoms that appear to be psychiatric in nature. Some psychiatrists are better than others, though, and my critiques don't necessarily apply to every psychiatrist out there, but I think that the standard of care that psychiatrists offer their patients generally leaves a lot of room for improvement.
