I dont however think thatt he idea is any sort of miracle cure - in the STAR-D trial the combination of SSRI + Bupropion didnt perform anywhere nearly as well as i thought it would have - unfortunatly the trial didnt compare Effexor with an SSRI + NARI, so no conclusions can be drawn, but the fact remains that at commonly used doseages (upto 150mg per day) Effexor is a much wearker NARI than nortriptyline, reboxetine, desipramine or bupropion, so if your depression has significant endrogenous/biological features, i think it remains a very good option if a single antidepressant fails
