In reply to APs like Zyprexa without weight issues??, posted by brokenbrain on March 2, 2012, at 19:50:31
> Anyone know if there are any old school APs that are somewhat similar to Zyprexa that may not cause as much weight gain? I've been through all of the new atypicals and Zyprexa is the only one that really works for me and I am somewhat functional on a day to day basis. But it really cranks up the hunger and causes an issue for me there. I've tried everything that is new that is out there and can't tolerate it or it just doesn't work.

I really don't know what symptoms you need to address, but an old antipsychotic that might be worth a look at is perphenazine (Trilafon). Some people do gain weight on it, but I doubt it is to the same degree as Zyprexa. I once read that trifluoperazine (Stelazine) was weight-neutral, but I don't know anyone who takes it.Molindone (Moban) would have been a good choice to avoid weight gain, but it is no longer available in the US.
