I am taking 200mg of doxycycline for acne.. and I have noticed a strong effect on my depression and anxiety.
I did a little research and apparently it antagonizes some serotonin receptors that are targets for newer AD drugs.
Ive read some articles on chronic fatigue where docs put patients on doxycycline and it helps them immensely, but they seem to assume its the antibiotic function thats doing this. I think its the serotonin receptor antagonism.
I dont see doxycycline as something I want to remain on in the long term. I think im going to look into some receptor antagonists like nefazodone.
This is some good info especially for those of us who suffer from CFS. Hope it helps more folks that are getting nowhere with the usual meds.
