I've tried Cymbalta, Celexa & Lexapro (Cipralex). For me, Cymbalta is _much_ better than either of the other two, and also far less side-effects than Effexor. Cymbalta seems to have suffered a bad "press" for some reason, but my pdoc likes it -- I'm currently on 60 mg/day, have been up to 90.

Celexa vs Lexapro (Escitaprolam): --
I'm surprised Celexa is still being prescribed when Lexapro is so much better. My pdoc described Lexapro, which is like a purer form of Celexa (stereoisomer for you chemists), as "90% of the antidepressant effect and 10% of the side-effects". For me, the difference is even more dramatic: 20 mg of Celexa made me so anxious I became dissociated & had an out-of-body experience (!), while 20 mg Lexapro (equiv. to 40 mg Celexa) has virtually zero side-effects except the usual sexual dysfunction. Above 20 mg Lexapro I start getting sweats, anxiety, etc, but I'm quite sensitive to SSRI's.

I've switched back & forth a couple of times. Cymbalta gets my vote every time, with Lexapro/Cipralex in combination with a mild stimulant such as Modafinil (or even coffee!) a close runner-up.

YMMV,

Tony P
