I guess it's a risk/benefit decision.
I don't know. Even though you already seem pretty sure this is a wrong road, it might be worth pursuing for a couple reasons.
First, it might work. And it might not have the side effects you anticipated. There is only one way to find out. It would be a shame to keep med hopping when you had a winner in your hands and let it go. It of course could fail and go exactly as you thought it would, but at least then for sure you could rule it out.
I think Savella would have been a better choice. It goes well with risperdal in clinical studies, showing strength even with treatment resistant patients. Unlike Pristq, Savella is a true SNRI. But not many doctors have caught on to it yet because it isn't marketed as an antidepressant in the usa, though it is everywhere else in the world. From personal experience with all the common and many uncommon meds, it had only mild sexual side effects with it. And I'm sensitive.
Another reason to at least give it a fair go is to show good faith with the docotr. In other words, at least give a shot at his idea in respect. If you have to bail out because you feel worse or the side effects are too much, then at least you can show the doctor you had enough faith in him to go ahead with his idea even though it ended up being a failure. It helps build cooperation. Maybe there will be a time when you want to specifically request a particular drug. He is more likely to be cooperative I think.
