Risperidone can cause weight gain too, although not as much as Zyprexa. It also tends to cause less drowsiness. The risk of movement disorders is reduced by keeping the dose as low as possible. I doubt you would need to exceed 4mg per day.
Risperidone can be given once or twice a day. You could start with 0.5mg twice a day and go from there. Response to antipsychotics is very variable. The initial dose should be low.
