Out of frustration, I actually ended up buying a CD called Brain Sync "Deep Sleep", which supposedly mimics the brain waves produced during deep sleep.
I don't know how hokey it is, and how much of my success I can put down to taking Niacin before bed (based on Linkadge's recommendation), but either way, I'm able to fall asleep around 11pm or midnight for the first time in over a year (as opposed to 3am).
The only problem is that my sleep is still really fitful and unrefreshing, so I still feel like trash the next day
