Depending on the sensitivity of the dopamine receptors, and a confusing relation to the adrenal/thyroid axis, stimulating meds can have paradoxical reactions.
Case in point, the ADHD kid who takes ritalin and becomes calm. Ritalin would send a normal person into hyper activity.
I think the mysteries of the dopamine system are way beyond our comprehension. You kind of just have to gather clues as to how you respond to this or that, and then use those clues to your advantage going forward in terms of doses and med choices. You kind of have to forget about theory stuff and textbooks and instead go with what your body is trying to tell you.
Wellbutrin made me really tired and really darkly depressed.
