I think that once you have been suffering untreated anxiety or depression for long enough, the disorders start piling on. If you start out with anxiety, pretty soon it will become depression, and then it will become psychotic or it may develop into bipolar. Likewise if you start out with depression.
My anxiety absolutely feeds off of my depression, because one of the things that I am most anxious about is getting overwhelmed or lacking the energy to deal with things.
