> I've been on the 6 mg. Emsam patch for about 5 weeks-last night a had a mild headache I couldn't get rid of-this morning when i went to the doc. my b.bp. was 148/104!!!!! The patch has caused some anxiety =heart rate to go up-which I control with a little beta-blocker- but my blood pressure has so far been okay.So what's going on with this sudden spike? I didn't eat anything 'forbidden'!!! Haven't some people posted that their anxiety DEcreases with dose increases? I'll be going up to 9mg. soon- but am worried about this blood pressure issue! Thanks to all-
What did you eat, drink, or take as a medication prior to the hypertensive event? I know you said that you did not take anything that appears on the forbidden lists you are using, but I'm curious if anything else emerges as being suspicious.
So far, I haven't heard of people having dangerous spontaneous hypertensive episodes with Emsam in the same way as sometimes occurs with Parnate. However, hypertension is listed as a frequent side effect of Emsam. This is an effect separate from the tyramine reaction. Emsam can also produce migraines.
For what it's worth, there are two Emsam (selegiline) amphetamine metabolites, but they are the wrong kind (levorotatory) to incease blood pressure.
