Question about Pristiq?

Posted by SheilaC on September 8, 2009, at 17:05:03

I tried Pristiq and really like it. It was one of the only meds that did not bother my bladder. Usually SSRI (or serotonin) causes frquency, pain, urgency, etc., so I avoid SSRIs.

Pristiq did not bother my bladder, which was awesome, but it did make me severely constipated.

I mentioned this to my regular doc today and he said that usually happens in women with IBS (irritable bowel). But I don't have IBS, just awful painful cystitis.

So, why would Pristiq cause constipation? Too much norepinephrine with very little serotonin?

If I can't take Pristiq for depression are there other drugs like it? Effexor was a little too heavy on serotonin and too light on norepinephrine.

Is Cymbalta close to Pristiq?
