I think the answer is surprisingly simple: it's just a matter of time before she will start to gain weight. Any SSRI can work as an appetite suppressor and make you lose weight; it happened to me on Paxil (paroxetine). But this effect is TEMPORARY. That's why the SSRIs have never been approved as diet drugs. Prozac has such a ridiculous long half-life (seven days), that both initial side-effects and therapeutic benefit of serotonin reuptake inhibition might take forever to subside/manifest. But take my word for it, she WILL gain weight provided she takes the Prozac long enough. For some people, it takes more than SIX MONTHS before they start to gain weight. But on any SSRI, you WILL gain weight within a year, mostly within half a year.
