The current thinking is that psoriasis is a result of an overactive immune system. My situation is very slight basically a patch on my ankle that I treat topically. The drugs like Enbrel that are taken orally basically help psoriasis by dialing down the immune response - at least that's my understanding. The problem is they don't do it that well and in some cases shut down other parts of the immune response opening people up to various infections, etc. For serious disfiguring cases of psoriasis I guess you would probably give these drugs a try and hope that the rest of your immune system isn't affected too badly.
I have been researching lithium a bit; one very detailed article I read mentioned nothing of memory loss, but this has been reported by some - I'll submit another post to ask this question.
